An HMO is a house that has been sub-divided into self-contained flats or share common areas such as kitchen, bathrooms, gardens and stairwells. mike & carol's story

In 2008, Mike and his wife Carol decided to become HMO Landlords and initially invested in four properties. At the time they joined a franchise business that offered advice and support on building a property portfolio. It was here that they met Kevin, a recommended broker.

By joining a property franchise business, Gertie learnt about HMOs, the rental market and met a network of brokers and advisers, including Kevin Orchard, who helped her get started.

From an initial property in the London area, she now owns seven London HMO’s and two apartments in Newcastle, housing forty-five tenants.
